Abena O. Asante

Abena O. Asante, Esq. obtained her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from New York University in 2000, graduating with honors.  She went on to complete her law degree at Union University, Albany Law School, with an International Law distinction in 2005.

Prior to law school, she worked at Sony-BMG (formerly Bertelsmann Group, BMG International) as part of the international corporate communications team, where she drafted press releases and prepared articles for publication.  She has also worked at many fashion companies, including Vogue,to further her interest in the fashion industry.

During her law studies, she explored comparative international law, with a focus on human rights and international business transactions.  Ms. Asante complimented her journalism and legal backgrounds at the University College of London by researching and publishing articles about the economic and legal markets of countries in Europe and the Middle East.  She was published in the leading international legal publication, Practical Law Company, while studying comparative corporate law, immigration law, media law, English trial advocacy at the University College of London.  Ms. Asante was also the recipient of a human rights fellowship for her work in Ghana, where she helped pioneers of women’s rights to draft legislative proposals for the Ghanaian constitution.

Her diverse background has afforded her an intricate understanding of immigration law from both a business and cultural perspective.  Her legal work at present is focused on advising businesses worldwide on immigration as well as corporate matters.  She practices in the area of corporate immigration, focusing on intracompany transfers, investors and business visitors. Her client affiliations include individuals and companies in the entertainment and fashion industries. She also manages family based petitions and asylum cases.

She is licensed to practice in the State of New York, in the Eastern District of New York (Federal) and Southern District of New York (Federal). She is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the New York County Lawyers Association.
